How We Build Our Datasets

The H Memorial Data Center publishes original dashboards, trackers and downloadable datasets on the U.S. memorial, cemetery, funeral and cremation industry. This methodology explains how those datasets are built and what their limits are.

Sources

Datasets are built from government statistics, official industry data, regulator filings and verified company records. Each published dataset identifies the sources it draws on.

Coverage period

Every dataset states the time period it covers and how current it is. We do not present outdated figures as current.

Definitions

Key terms and categories are defined so figures can be compared correctly. Where the industry lacks a single standard definition, we state the one we use.

What we do not publish

We do not publish customer-level data, and we do not publish estimated laws, prices, benefit amounts or statistics without a verifiable source. Figures that are not yet verified are marked as in preparation.

Update history

Datasets show when they were last updated. When a methodology or source changes materially, we note the change.

Limitations

Each dataset notes known limitations — sample gaps, reporting lags or regional variation — so readers can interpret the numbers responsibly.
